Ailalec is a small township nestled deep in the mountains of Timor Lestè. Whilst it is an extremely beautiful place, it is very remote and access is challenging. Monsoon rains make the roads even more difficult to travel along.

This inaccessibility is what made Ailalec such a good base for Australian 2/4th Commandos during their time there in 1942/3.
Ailalec Primary School
Ailalec Primary is a small school, in a very remote location. It has around 100 students, with half attending in the morning and half in the afternoon.
Basic school items such as exercise books, pen, pencils, erasers etc. are in very short supply. Children are very keen to learn, and their families fully understand the importance of them getting an education.
