The journey to Ailalec has usually been eventful for Jan. No matter how well prepared they have been, something testing usually happens. This time, the 4WD they were travelling in ran off the road, so for several hours, their 4WD had two wheels trapped in a culvert on the side of the mountain. They tried to get it out, but failed.
They were in a remote position, however eventually a truck that was passing by pulled them back onto the road.

Even with the hardships getting there, reaching the village made up for it. The welcome they received was heart-warming.

The village is so beautiful.

The BESIK Water Pumps have meant there is water pumped to homes in the village.
This has made such a difference to home gardens.

The ‘Across the Timor Sea’ visitors were treated with such care by people in the village.

The village Chief made sure Jan was always treated with care & great respect.

The efforts of ‘Across the Timor Sea’ are making a difference. Jan’s trips to Ailalec enable her to see the impact of ‘Across the Timor Sea’ programs and get a better understanding of needs there.
