All connected with ‘Across the Timor Sea’ are still reflecting on Jan’s latest trip to Timor Lestè. So much was achieved.

When she last flew to Timor Lestè, Jan met Don Walker (who came from Melbourne) in Darwin. Don, who was to accompany her into Ailalec and St. Francis of Assisi, is the younger son of Major Mac Walker who led the 2/4th Commandoes in East Timor during WW2. He wanted to visit many sites connected to his father’s time in East Timor, especially what remains of the wreck of the Voyager, on the beach at Betano.

On arrival in Dili, Jan booked into the Beach-side Hotel, which was her base whilst in Dili.

The next day Jan prepared for the trip into the mountains to Ailalec Village. Don Walker and Judite Martin, from Rotary International Office in Dili, were travelling with her this time. Judite’s knowledge and help as interpreter was invaluable.

Jan has various projects for ‘Across the Timor Sea’ to develop, however the Sponsorship program will always remain the primary objective.
